WHEN: Thursday @12:30pm
My boss has been raving about this place so one day I agreed to go with him. It's a tiny spot I recall walking by many times--like a food kiosks. So after you order, you step outside and wait.
Here's what I had:
BANH MI - COMBO - $8.25
This sandwich has all the cold meats with pickled stuff. No cucumbers though, which I had hoped to have. The pickled daikon was cut thick julienne style, which I was sceptic at first but it's actually not bad! I had asked for extra aioli in case this ended up being dry. Unfortunately it looks like mayo--not the kind of fatty spread that's more translucent. This was a straight up white mayo cream. Not a complaint! Just stating a personal preference. There was a good amount of pate and it wasn't until the ends of the sandwich that I taste the sweet soy-like sauce.
Oh I had mine cute in half with no jalapeño peppers.
I thought it was a very decent sandwich and a hefty one. Sure I may be used to paying $4 for a Banh mi, but I get it--it's downtown SF. If they share $4, this place would be our of business.
I really appreciate the service and can see this mom and pops shop are great people. Little gestures like handing over things (receipt and credit cards) with both hands is a great gesture of respect showcasing Vietnamese mannerism. Go you!!!
If you want to support local mom and pops shops for some reasonably priced food that's tasty, give this place a try! I know I'm coming back to try other things! -

A teeny tiny spot right next to Walgreens.
I can't get OVER how expensive banh mis are in SF.
Paying 8.25$ for a Vietnamese sandwich is BLASPHEMY. But, it is SF and everything in SF comes with a price, so I'll eventually get over it.
I was craving for banh mi since I haven't had it in a while so I wanted to stop by and grab a sammie. The last time I had banh mi in SF was at Saigon Sandwich. I wasn't sure if I would like this place because I wasn't in love with Saigon Sandwich. But...surprisingly, it was quite good! I'll take it for what it is.
I got the combo for 8.25$. It was a very small spot so it takes time to make my sandwich. The bread was good. The sauce has a hint of sweetness which is not something I am fan of but it didn't affect the overall sandwich.
They have been operating for over 20 years! But I can see why. Their banh mis are pretty dang good. -

I love this little Vietnamese cafe. I have been going to this cafe for about 1 year now and I finally have the time to write this review. This is the best Vietnamese sandwich spot I have eaten in SF.
Service - A tiny hole in the wall next to Walgreens. The women there are super nice even when things get hectic. Their Vietnamese sandwiches are cheap. The service is really fast and they make the sandwiches fresh on the spot.
Food - I've had every kind of Vietnamese sandwich here and my favorites are the grilled pork and combo. Their sandwiches are huge and they are very generous on the meat and veggies. The sauce that they added to the sandwich is AMAZING.
Overall - I love this place! Best spot for Vietnamese sandwich in SF, hands down. They provide very good food with affordable price. Highly recommended! -

I ordered the pork Bahn Mi every day I was in town for a conference. Mai is the young woman at the counter who I think is the owner. Mai came to know my name after the second take out order :)
I walked past this place and actually thought it was a broom closet connected to Walgreens (the one on Market street and O'Farrel) it's SO SMALL! Unless you are looking for it, it's really easy to miss. (Seriously a hidden amazing gem, good job.)
Mai told me that they changed their Mayo spread recipe recently and their Bahn Mi ordered have tripled! -

Cafe Dolci food used to be just average, I havent been back to this place for so long. Just recently heard that the owner has changed so I thought maybe I'd come back to give a try and boy do I glad I made that decision. Every sandwiches I tried and I love it. Everything, including the Japanese ice matcha drink, is so much more better than before. Even the owner now is alot more nicer and sweeter. The combo sandwich is my favorite, and I've been back every week.
